On the 7th day of cell salts… Kali sulphuricum. Kali sulph is the cell salt for the skin, helping to build new skin cells. It also works in conjunction with Ferr phos to help blood carry oxygen to all the cells. Think of Kali sulph for active inflammatory conditions. Inflammation of the mucous membranes: bronchitis and whooping cough, for example, where discharges are thick, stringy, ropy and tough. Inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and dandruff. Conditions which may benefit from Kali sulph:
Mentally and emotionally, those who may benefit from Kali sulph may be irritable and unpredictable moods. Julia Coyte, CHom Classically Practical homeopath #wellnessawaits Reference list

On the 5th day of cell salts… Kali muriaticum Kali mur is the clean up crew — good in the second stage of infections or illnesses with slowly developing symptoms. It usually follows well after other cell salts. (For example, use Ferr phos at the beginning of a fever and as the temperature comes down, follow up with Kali mur to help bring things to a close and shorten the recovery time. Kali mur is useful in chronic catarrhal conditions (congestion) and helps with the production of saliva which in turn helps with digestion. The throat and the Eustachian tube are most influenced by Kali mur. Conditions which may benefit from Kali mur:
Mentally and emotionally, Kali mur are hungry people (which also may mean they may suffer from an eating disorder). Julia Coyte, CHom Classically Practical homeopath #wellnessawaits Reference list

I was having some sinus issues recently — that’s not my normal thing so it kind of took me by surprise.
My presenting symptom was a headache. Not a normal headache, but pain in just one little spot — one maddening little spot on my forehead. The first remedy that comes to mind for pain in a “spot” is Kali bich. I took a dose and within minutes my nose started running and that’s when the penny dropped that what I was experiencing was sinus pain. Kali bich is a big remedy for sinus complaints. Kali bich pains can occur in small spots — small enough that they can be covered with the tip of a finger. In particular, these sharp pains are located over the eyebrows and the pain can be intense. Severe pain may be felt at the root of the nose… the part of the nose that attaches to the forehead. For nose pain, Kali bich tallies up as a bold type and underlined remedy (translation: a good place to start if you have nose pain). If there is pain inside the nose or septum pain… on their own or coupled with a headache… Kali bich. The nostrils may be filled with hard plugs and when these plugs are evicted, little ulcerated spots may be left in their place; they might even bleed. Other Kali bich pains (not located in the head) may be:
Kali bich pains may respond favorably to warmth. British homeopath John Henry Clarke [1853-1931] describes Kali bich’s low back pain as a violent aching, “like a gathering in a small spot in sacrum, a steady, throbbing pain,” worse at night and interfering with sleep. For previous articles mentioning Kali bich: Cough Cough; Calming the Cold; Tis the Season…for the Crud; Tis the Season…for Burns So, Kali bich for when it’s thick… Kali bich for when it feels like you’ve been poked by a stick (one little spot)… OK, I’m reaching there, but I’m trying to find associations to keep these remedies in the forefront of your homeopathic mind… Hey! Frontal eminence pain is a big thing for Kali bich, too! Julia Coyte, CHom Classically Practical homeopath #wellnessawaits I’m sure you have noticed that there are some winter illnesses going around. One of them tried sneaking into our house just as we were packing up Christmas. So far, we have been able to foil its plans. When the first signs struck the other day, I used my go-to remedies to pretty good effect. (See previous articles: Flu Remedies; Ho Ho Ho; Ammonium carb; Calming the Cold; The Crud.) Unusually for me, I had a nasty sinus headache that my normal remedies managed to quiet but not quite subdue. Then, I saw sitting next to my desk, a little bottle of something I bought on a whim and forgot all about. A cute, little bottle called, “Achoo!*” Achoo! is a gemmotherapy combination (see here for more information on Gemmos) of Common Alder, Black Currant and Dog Rose. Lauren Hubele’s website* (which is the only place I have been able to find which sells it) says it is a remedy "to support upper respiratory health". Let’s take a quick look at the ingredients. Common Alder or Alnus glutinosa is a fluid harmonizer and is useful in case of colds, flu, viruses, headaches and localized inflammation, especially those originating from a mucosa. It is known to support natural defenses and is said to act best if used at the beginning of symptoms of upper respiratory conditions. Black Currant or Ribes nigrum is also useful for immune system support. It has a high content of vitamin C and can be very useful in any inflamed condition, in particular in the respiratory tract (in my case, sinusitis). Dog Rose or Rosa canina is another immune support and is particularly useful when the head is involved: adenoids and sinuses. Today is Saturday and I first felt these symptoms on Wednesday evening. Thursday was a little tough, but thanks to my remedies, it didn't stop me from living my life. Yesterday was mostly fine and today I am completely back to normal with good energy and no sinus pain, whatsoever. If you are quick on the draw when you first feel symptoms, homeopathy and gemmotherapy can get you right back on track with minimal disruption to your life. It’s the early days of these winter illnesses. If you haven’t done so yet, pick up a few of the remedies listed in my earlier blogs and a little bottle of Achoo!, too. Julia Coyte, CHom Classically Practical homeopath #wellnessawaits * I have no affiliation with this or any other company, I just like their products. Once upon a time, when somebody sneezed or coughed, we all assumed it was either a cold or allergies and we really didn't think very much about it. Now, if you're in public and you have to sneeze or (heaven forbid!) cough… hold it in -- don't even go there!
Allergy season has returned to our neck of the woods. Headaches. Sneezing. Runny noses. Blocked up sinuses. Tickling in the throat. Yuck. Let's look at a few homeopathic remedies that might be of assistance. Allium cepa is a go-to remedy for runny noses which burn and eyes that water blandly and can present with a dull frontal headache. Arsenicum album -- for burning discharge from the nose and the eyes and eyelids may be puffy. Here's a potentially important piece of the allergy puzzle with this remedy: Complaints return annually. (While this is more of a classical homeopathic approach to allergies, Arsenicum album can certainly be applied in a practical or therapeutic way, as well.) Euphrasia focuses on the eyes. Opposite to Allium cepa, Euphrasia has a bland runny nose and burning eyes. The eyelids may also itch and burn. Natrum muriaticum can have a profuse watery discharge from the eyes and the nose and what comes out of the nose may have an egg white consistency. Taste and smelling may be an issue as well as a tickling in the pit of the throat. Nux vomica -- obnoxious, relentless sneezing as well as irritation in the nose and eyes. Grumpiness might just be a part of this picture, too. Sanguinaria can be very helpful for sinus issues and facial pain and headaches from the blocked sinuses. Wyethia also has the runny nose and sneezing, but it also has the peculiar symptom of an itchy palate -- requesting your tongue's assistance in rubbing back and forth trying to scratch that itch. There are many, many homeopathic remedies to address the many, many allergic symptoms. If you need help deciding what remedies may best suit your symptoms, or if you are prone to allergies in general, homeopathy can help to strengthen your system and lessen this burden. Contact classicallypractical.com to see if homeopathy can help relieve your seasonal allergies now and in the future. Julia Coyte, CHom Classically Practical Homeopathy #homeopathycanhelp |
